.KEY MESSAGES...

* Afternoon clouds with isolated showers across Lassen and
  northern Washoe counties today.

* Gusty afternoon winds and dry conditions could produce areas of
  elevated fire concerns on Wednesday.

* High pressure strengthens this weekend with western Nevada
valleys nearing the 100 degree mark this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...

Seasonable heat continues this afternoon as western Nevada
valleys warm into the mid-upper 90s this afternoon while Sierra
communities heat to the mid-80s. A stationary low off the central
CA coast may allow for enough instablilty to develop afternoon
cumulus build-ups and a 10-15% chance of showers across Lassen
County into far NW Nevada this afternoon.

In addition, southeasterly winds and dry conditions could yield
localized and short duration periods of critical fire weather
conditions across the southern extents of Mono and Mineral
counties this afternoon. Late afternoon zephyrs will turn winds
back out of the west each afternoon. Wednesday could see breezier
conditions with gusts of 25-30 mph. These winds combined with
single digit afternoon RH could produce elevated fire weather
concerns across portions of western Nevada.

While temperatures will drop back into the lower 90s by mid-week,
the reprieve will be short as high pressure amplifies across the
western U.S. This will shoot temperatures back into the upper 90s
to near the 100 degree mark across western Nevada this weekend
with upper 80s to near 90 for Sierra valleys. Overall Saturday
could be our first shot at the 100 degree mark in Reno this year.
Be sure to take the heat into consideration for any plans next
weekend as widespread moderate HeatRisk is expected. Fuentes

.AVIATION...

VFR conditions will prevail today with 10-15% chance of isolated
showers from KSVE northward into the Oregon border this afternoon.
Afternoon temperatures in the upper 90s may present some density
altitude issues for western Nevada terminals this afternoon,
particularly at KHTH-KNFL-KLOL. Salas/Fuentes
